SHOP BY NEIGHBORHOOD

Maui has several neighborhoods with charming downtown areas fit for leisurely strolls, taking in the scenery and discovering unique shops and restaurants. This is where you’ll find the best local art galleries, clothing stores, jewelry shops and souvenirs:

  • MAKAWAO TOWN
Makawao Town is an old cowboy town with lots of fashionable clothing and gift boutiques. Some favorites include Tribe Maui – a women’s clothing and housewares boutique that exudes beachy cool and Maui sophistication, Droplets – adorable children’s store that is half carefully curated consignment and half new products, Homme by Nature – a trendy men’s clothing boutique, and Maui Hands Makawao – the largest of its four locations with original art from Hawaii artists.
  • PAIA
Paia, originally formed to serve the needs of local sugar mill plantation workers, is now perhaps Maui’s coolest little town. You’ll find lots of unique and local shops here including Alice in Hulaland – a gift shop that is kind of an institution, Mana Foods – a well-stocked grocery store and favorite spot for locals for natural and local health products, Pearl – a home goods and clothing store with beautiful textiles and a focus on supporting local artists, small businesses and fair trade.
  • WAILUKU
Wailuku is the home of many local businesses on Maui. Upon first glance it might appear a bit sleepier than some of the other towns mentioned, but it has a rich history with plenty of hidden shopping gems to discover. Some places to check out include Maui Thing – a women’s and children’s clothing store with a passion for supporting local Maui businesses, and C.U.T. Market – a thrift shop with an impressive selection of vintage Levi’s and other denim.
