Milowai faces west — directly into the sunset. The late-afternoon light comes straight across Ma’alaea Bay, drops behind the West Maui Mountains, and paints the water in a way you can’t get from an east-facing shore.

The building has 43 units spread over an acre of land — a mid-sized complex with elevator access, an oceanfront pool, gas BBQ grills along the water, and a landscaped lawn with chaise lounges running to the shoreline.
Sugar Beach, one of Maui’s longest stretches of sand — starts just south of the property and runs nearly six miles along the bay. Parking is in an underground garage with one assigned stall per unit (note: 6-foot clearance, which won’t accommodate all larger SUVs). No resort fees.
While Milowai is situated right on the water, beach sizes in Maui are prone to seasonal shifts and tide changes.
Ma’alaea Harbor is a short walk from the building — the launch point for Molokini snorkel boats, fishing charters, and whale-watching cruises (December through April).
Tante’s Fish Market at the harbor serves fresh seafood and sushi, and the Ma’alaea General Store handles morning coffee and provisions. Haleakala National Park is roughly an hour’s drive upcountry for sunrise or hiking — and on clear mornings you can see the summit from the lanai.
Ma’alaea sits at the geographic center of Maui’s coast, which keeps both sides accessible: Kihei and Wailea are 10–20 minutes south, Ka’anapali is about 25–30 minutes north, and Kahului Airport is roughly 15–20 minutes east.
