Kapalua is a scenic coastal community on Maui’s northwest shore, known for protected beaches, coastal trails, and championship golf. It offers a quieter alternative to busier resort areas while still providing easy access to West Maui dining and activities. Kapalua Bay is one of Maui’s most photographed beaches: protected, golden, and perfect for swimming and snorkeling. The whole neighborhood has a gated, private-community feel, but it’s remarkably accessible and welcoming. Why Guests Stay in Kapalua
Kapalua appeals to travelers looking for open space, ocean views, and a more relaxed pace. It feels residential yet refined, with low-density resorts and vacation residences tucked into natural surroundings.
Kapalua Bay is one of Maui’s most swimmable beaches, with calm waters and seasonal snorkeling. Oneloa Beach offers a longer stretch of sand and fewer crowds. The Kapalua Coastal Trail connects both beaches and provides an easy oceanfront walk. Nearby hiking options include Mahana Ridge.
The Plantation Course and Bay Course are two of Maui’s most recognized golf experiences. Tennis, pickleball, and spa services are also available within the resort community.
Oceanfront dining at Merriman’s, sushi at Sansei, and casual cafés nearby give guests convenient options without needing to drive far. Napili and Kā‘anapali are just minutes away for additional restaurants and shopping.
Kapalua is ideal for couples, golfers, and travelers who prefer quieter evenings, scenic walking paths, and protected swimming beaches.
When you rent in Kapalua, you’re choosing a curated Maui experience. Most properties here are higher-end homes and resort-style condos with premium views, pools, and finishes.

Kapalua Bay is one of the most beautiful and protected beaches on the island. Calm, clear water and golden sand make it ideal for families and swimmers. Other beaches rival it for different reasons (snorkeling, surfing, views), but Kapalua Bay is hard to beat.
The Plantation Course hosts professional tournaments and offers stunning ocean views. The Bay Course is currently closed for restoration. Rates are high, but the courses are stunning. Non-golfers won't miss out on anything—it's just an option if you play.
Most are upscale, but not all are five-star estates. You'll find resort condos with good amenities at lower price points than oceanfront homes. You're still getting Kapalua's exclusivity and location for less.
Lāhainā is about 25–30 minutes away. Central Maui towns (Wailuku, Kāhului) are 50+ minutes. But Kapalua feels worth the drive: quieter, fewer tourists, and some of Maui's best beaches.
Snorkeling, hiking, whale watching (winter), fine dining, and spa services. The Kapalua resort area offers scenic hiking trails, including the popular Coastal Trail. You're far from nightlife but close to peaceful, outdoor-focused activities.
