Kulakane is Beachfront on the Honokowai Coast Between Kaʻanapali and Kapalua
Kulakane sits right on the beach in Honokowai, on the same West Maui stretch as Kaleialoha and Hale Ono Loa — close enough that walking between them takes a couple of minutes.
The seawall fronting the property is well known to long-time guests for the year-round honu activity grazing the reef directly offshore, with humpback whale sightings during the season. Walk a few minutes from the building and you’re at a coffee shop, a bakery, and several local restaurants.
Drive 5–10 minutes south and you’re at Kaʻanapali Beach; 5–15 minutes north puts you in Kapalua.
The units Maui Paradise Properties manages at Kulakane (currently 105, 211, 304, 306, 307, 310, with the Kulakane portfolio rotating periodically) cover both a 1-bedroom and 2-bedroom footprint. The 1-bedrooms (about 568 square feet, sleep 4) pair a king bed with a sleeper sofa in the living room. The 2-bedrooms (about 858 square feet, sleep 6) typically pair two bedrooms with a queen sleeper sofa in the living room — unit 307, for example, has king beds in both bedrooms and was newly remodeled in 2025 with refreshed kitchen with granite counters, and fresh paint and carpet throughout.
All units have a fully equipped kitchen, flat-screen TVs in the living room and bedrooms, ceiling fans throughout, and an oceanfront lanai facing the channel between Lanaʻi and Molokaʻi.
A few practical details worth knowing before you book, because they vary materially by unit at Kulakane: AC offerings vary by unit, and in-unit laundry varies too. The resort doesn’t run on central air, so each unit is set up with its own arrangement — some units have full AC, some rely on ceiling fans and the West Maui trade winds. Laundry runs the same way: some units have an in-unit washer/dryer; others use the on-site coin-operated laundry room. When you book, our team can match you to a unit whose AC and laundry setup fits your trip — say so up front and we’ll filter accordingly.
On the property side, Kulakane is intentionally a smaller-scale resort: an oceanfront swimming pool, gas BBQ grills, direct ocean access from the lawn, on-site parking included with the stay, no resort fees — and no elevator (the building is three floors, so a top-floor unit means stairs).
The small sand pocket directly in front of the property comes and goes with tide and weather; it’s not a sure thing year-round, but the snorkeling off the seawall is consistently good.
For broader planning, our things to do in West Maui guide and the wider Maui Paradise Properties rentals page cover dining and day trips; the Kaʻanapali area page covers the closest beaches and resort-area dining.
During humpback whale season (December through April) whale activity sits close enough offshore to watch from the lanai.
Every reservation at Kulakane includes free daily Xplorie activities and the MPP Starter Kit — toiletries, paper goods, beach chairs, towels, and a cooler ready for you on arrival. Whalers Village at Kaʻanapali is a 5–10 minute drive south for fuller dining and shopping.
